NCIt definition : A fusion gene that results from a 30kb deletion, del(6)(q23q26), that fuses the first
9 or 15 exons of the MYB gene to exon 5 of the QKI gene. This fusion is associated
with angiocentric gliomas.;
NCIt note : MYB/QKI fusion gene expression may promote oncogenesis three ways: 1. aberrant transcriptional
activation activity inherent in the fusion protein, 2. aberrant expression of MYB
activity in the brain because the fusion brings H3K27ac enhancer regions near the
3' of the QKI gene in close proximity to the 5' promoter region of the MYB gene and
3. disruption of QKI tumor suppressor activity from the loss of expression of the
first 4 exons of the QKI gene. (Nat Genet. 2016; 48:273-282.);
