Preferred Label : Acylation Stimulating Protein;

NCIt synonyms : C3a Anaphylatoxin desArg; C3adesArg; Complement Component C3adesArg; C3a des Arg; Complement C3adesArg; Acylation-Stimulating-Protein; ASP; Acylation-Stimulating Protein;

NCIt definition : Acylation stimulating protein (76 aa, 9 kDa) is encoded by the human C3 gene. This protein is involved in stimulating glucose uptake, triglyceride synthesis and nonesterified fatty acid storage in adipocytes.;

NCIt note : Acylation stimulating protein (ASP) is comprised of amino acids 672-747 of complement C3 and is produced through proteolysis of complement C3 into a C-terminal alpha chain and a N-terminal beta chain (C3b) followed by further modification of the alpha chain C-terminus yielding C3a anaphylatoxin. Then C3a anaphylatoxin is rapidly cleaved by either carboxypeptidase B or N, which remove the C-terminal arginine residue, to generate acylation stimulating protein.;
