NCIt definition : A low-dose formulation of aldesleukin, a recombinant analog of the human endogenous
cytokine interleukin-2 (IL-2), with potential immunoregulatory activity. Upon administration
of low-dose aldesleukin ILT-101, this agent binds to and activates the IL-2 receptor
(IL2R), thereby activating IL2R-mediated signaling. This enhances the expansion and
stimulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs). This prevents excessive inflammation and
autoimmunity. It also blocks the differentiation of CD4 naïve T cells into follicular
helper or proinflammatory helper 17 (Th17) T cells. Tregs, a subpopulation of CD4
T cells, plays a key role in the control of immune responses and T-cell immune tolerance.
Activation of IL2R with low dose IL-2 preferentially induces Tregs development and
activation while activation of IL2R with high dose IL-2 induces the activation of
T effector (Teff) cells.;
