Preferred Label : Elbasvir/Grazoprevir;
NCIt synonyms : Elbasvir-Grazoprevir; Grazoprevir-Elbasvir; Grazoprevir/Elbasvir;
NCIt definition : A fixed dose combination of elbasvir, an inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV)
non-structural protein 5A (NS5A), and grazoprevir, a second-generation inhibitor of
the HCV NS3/4A serine protease, with activity against certain HCV genotypes. Upon
oral administration of elbasvir/grazoprevir, elbasvir inhibits the activity of the
NS5A protein, leading to disruption of the viral RNA replication complex, blockage
of HCV RNA production, and inhibition of viral replication. Grazoprevir inhibits the
NS3/4A serine protease enzyme, thereby disrupting the cleavage of the virally encoded
polyprotein into mature proteins and preventing the formation of the viral replication
complex. HCV is a small, enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the Flaviviridae
family; HCV infection is associated with the development of certain cancers.;
