11-beta-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2MeSH Descriptor
Preferred Label : 11-beta-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2;
MeSH definition : An high-affinity, NAD-dependent 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase that acts unidirectionally
to catalyze the dehydrogenation of CORTISOL to CORTISONE. It is found predominantly
in mineralocorticoid target tissues such as the KIDNEY; COLON; SWEAT GLANDS; and the
PLACENTA. Absence of the enzyme leads to a fatal form of childhood hypertension termed,
APPARENT MINERALOCORTICOID EXCESS SYNDROME.;
MeSH synonym : 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2; 11beta-hsd2; 11beta-hsd2 reductase; 11beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2; 11 beta-hsd2; 11 beta-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2; 11 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2;
Registry Number MeSH : EC 1.1.1.146;
