Résumé Over the past 2 decades in the United States, a dramatic transformation of policies, procedures, and technologies for protecting healthcare workers from the risk of occupational bloodborne pathogen transmission has occurred. In the United States, we have an abundance of safety device choices and a regulatory framework to support continued improvement in reducing this occupational risk. Whether we achieve this objective depends directly on informed product choices as healthcare employers make their purchasing decisions.
