Résumé

The purpose of this article is to furnish a concrete indication of the cost of a treatment for infertility, and to present a comparison between the cost of a normal pregnancy and delivery, and the cost of a pregnancy and delivery after treatment for infertility. The authors investigated 19 cases through the files of the Gynecology Dept. of the hospital in Sevres, France. Types of costs evaluated were those concerning medical, biological and radiological surveillance, hospitalization, and surgical and/or obstetrical treatment. The lower cost was that of spontaneous pregnancy and delivery, followed by cost of treatment for sterility and by cost of pregnancy and delivery after treatment for sterility. Figures showed that a baby born after treatment for sterility costs 4 1/2 times more than a baby conceived and born under normal circumstances.
