Demographic trends in Poland are analyzed in the context of recent political, social, and economic changes. The divergence between population policy objectives and actual trends under Communism are noted. The author suggests that Poland and the other countries of Eastern Europe face the prospect of declining rates of population reproduction in the foreseeable future. (SUMMARY IN ENG AND POL)
