The authors attempt to derive a law of mortality by cause, which will give probability of death by sex and age for a given cause of death. The concept of proper as distinct from observed time is central to the method outlined, as is a general law of mortality previously developed by Damiani. The data used are annual mortality rates by cause for France for the years 1966-1970. (SUMMARY IN ENG)
