NCIt definition : The number of fetal cardiac beats per minute, considered as the reference value against which measurements in the future can be made.;

Alternative definition : NICHD: The mean fetal heart rate rounded to increments of 5 beats per minute during a 10 minute segment, excluding accelerations and decelerations, periods of marked variability, or baseline segments that differ by more than 25 beats per minute. In any given 10 minute window, the minimum baseline duration must be at least 2 minutes but not necessarily contiguous.;
