NCIt definition : A species of facultatively anaerobic, Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria in the phylum
Proteobacteria. This species is motile, positive for urease, and ornithine decarboxylase,
and negative for oxidase, and citrate. It is able to ferment cellobiose, sucrose,
and sorbose but not raffinose, melibiose, or rhamnose. Y. enterocolitica is commensal
and a pathogen that causes Yersiniosis, which infects children that have ingested
contaminated meat or milk.;
