NCIt definition : A species of anaerobic, Gram negative, cocci shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Firmicutes. This species is peroxidase positive and requires either putrescine or cadaverine for growth. V. dispar is part of the normal flora of the human oral and respiratory tracts and may become pathogenic, causing meningitis, osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infection, pleuropulmonary infection, endocarditis, and bacteremia.;
