They produces acetoin, hydrolyze arginine and esculin, ferment trehalose, lactose, salicin and sucrose, expresses Lancefield antigens A, C, F, G, or N and are mixed hemolytic ability. Bacteria in the S. milleri group are pathogenic, causing periodontitis and purulent infections.;
