phylum Firmicutes. This species is positive for catalase, alkaline phosphatase and
oxidase and negative for coagulase and urease. It can ferment glucose, fructose, ribose,
glycerol, mannitol, trehalose, cellobiose, and sucrose, but not turanose, xylose,
xylitol, lactose or maltose. S. sciuri is found in soil, water, animal and human skin
and is an opportunistic pathogen in humans.;
