to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is motile, indole, methyl red, and urease
positive, oxidase, citrate, and lipase negative, nonpigmented, fermentative, reduces
nitrate, produces acid from galactose, maltose and sucrose, and hydrolyzes gelatin,
but not esculin. P. hauseri is part of the normal human and animal intestinal flora
and is widespread in the environment, but can become pathogenic.;
