This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, not acid fast, catalase, oxidase, phosphatase, and ornithine decarboxylase positive, urease negative, reduces nitrate, and does not hydrolyze esculin or grow on MacConkey's agar. P. canis is found in the oral cavity of dogs and is associated with infections from dog bites in humans.;
