This species is motile by peritrichous flagella, oxidase negative, produces acid from fermentation, utilizes citrate as a carbon source, indole positive and negative for H2S production. C. amalonaticus is most commonly found in feces, soil, water and sewage and is an opportunistic pathogen causing urinary tract infections, bacteremia and other systemic infections.;
