This species is motile, non-spore forming, catalase positive, oxidase negative, lipase positive, indole negative, ornithine decarboxylase negative, ferments sucrose reduces nitrate, does not produce hydrogen sulfide, and hydrolyzes esculin. C. neteri is especially pathogenic to immunocompromised patients, causing super infections and bacteremia.;
