NCIt definition : A species of aerobic, Gram-negative, coccobacilli shaped bacteria assigned to the
phylum Proteobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, catalase, oxidase
and urease positive, reduces nitrates, produces hydrogen sulfide, grows in thionine,
but not basic fuchsin, and is positive for Weybridge phage lysis, but negative for
Tiblisi phage lysis. B. suis is found in swine and is pathogenic to these species
as well as causes brucellosis in humans.;
