NCIt definition : A species of aerobic, Gram-negative, coccobacilli shaped bacteria assigned to the phylum Proteobacteria. This species is nonmotile, non-spore forming, reduces nitrates, does not produce hydrogen sulfide, positive for catalase, oxidase and urease, does not grow in thionine and may or may not grow in basic fuchsin, and is negative for Tiblisi and Weybridge phage lysis. B. canis is found in canines where it can cause abortions and causes brucellosis in humans.;
