NCIt definition : Human GAS8 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 16q24.3 and is approximately 25 kb in length. This allele, which encodes growth-arrest-specific protein 8, plays a role in cell cycle regulation and growth arrest.;

NCIt note : GAS8 contains eleven exons spanning 25 kb that include a 1.4 kb open reading frame encoding the gene product. Two ubiquitous transcripts of 3.4 and 1.8 kb are seen, while a 7.3 kb transcript is observed in heart and skeletal muscle and a 1.4 kb transcript is observed in skeletal muscle alone. Intron 2 contains C16ORF3, an intronless gene in the opposite orientation transcribed at low levels. GAS8 maps to a region sometimes deleted in breast and prostate cancer.;
