Preferred Label : RPL7A wt Allele;
NCIt synonyms : TRUP; SURF3; Ribosomal Protein L7A wt Allele; L7A; SURF-3;
NCIt definition : Human RPL7A wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 9q34 and is approximately
17 kb in length. This allele, which encodes 60S ribosomal protein L7a, plays a role
in the regulation of both messenger RNA translation and nuclear hormone receptor-mediated
transcription.;
NCIt note : The RPL7A gene is co-transcribed with the U24, U36a, U36b, and U36c small nucleolar
RNA genes, which are located in its second, fifth, fourth, and sixth introns, respectively.; Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S
subunit and a large 60S subunit. Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species
and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. The RPL7A gene encodes a ribosomal
protein that is a component of the 60S subunit. A chromosomal aberration causes the
RPL7A gene to fuse with the NTRK1 gene resulting in the formation an oncoprotein.
