NCIt definition : Human FOS wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 14q24.3 and is approximately 3 kb in length. This allele, which encodes proto-oncogene protein c-fos, is involved in the regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II.;

NCIt note : The FOS gene product is a nuclear phosphoprotein which forms a tight, non-covalently linked complex with the transcription factor AP1 protein. This complex contains basic regions that interact with symmetrical DNA half sites and has a critical function in regulating the development of cells destined to form and maintain the skeleton. This complex may play a role in signal transduction, cell proliferation and differentiation (GeneCards).;
