Preferred Label : BCL6 wt Allele;
NCIt synonyms : B-Cell CLL/Lymphoma 6 (Zinc Finger Protein 51) Gene; Zinc Finger Protein 51 Gene; ZNF51; Cys-His2 Zinc Finger Transcription Factor Gene; ZBTB27; BCL5; LAZ3; LAZ-3 Gene; Lymphoma-Associated Zinc Finger Gene on Chromosome 3; BCL6; B-Cell CLL/Lymphoma 6 wt Allele; Bcl-6;
NCIt definition : Human BCL6 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 3q27 and is approximately
24 kb in length. This allele, which encodes B-cell lymphoma 6 protein, is involved
in the suppression of transcription. Various lymphoma and leukemia types are associated
with aberrant forms of this gene.;
NCIt note : The BCL6 gene is implicated in diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, which can be linked
to either translocation t(3;7)(q27;p12), which fuses this gene with the IKZF1 gene,
or translocation t(3;16)(q27;p11), which involves this gene and the IL21R gene. B-cell
non-Hodgkin lymphoma is associated with at least three chromosomal rearrangements
of the gene including t(3;6)(q27;p21), which fuses the BCL6 gene to the HIST1H4I gene,
and both t(3;14)(q27;q32) and t(3;22)(q27;q11), which both embed the BCL6 gene in
the immunoglobulin gene cluster. Some forms of B-cell leukemia are linked to translocation
t(3;11)(q27;q23), which involves both the BCL6 gene and the POU2AF1 gene. Lymphoma
has been associated with translocation t(3;4)(q27;p11), which fuses the BCL6 gene
with the RHOH gene. (OMIM and SwissProt);
