NCIt definition : Human ABCC1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 16p13.1 and is approximately
193 kb in length. This allele, which encodes multidrug resistance-associated protein
1, is involved in multispecific organic anion transport.;
NCIt note : Expressed in lung, testis, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, the 200 kb human
MRP1 Gene (ABC family) at 16p13.1 - telomeric to MYH11 - contains thirty-one exons
that encode a plasma membrane drug-efflux transporter associated with multidrug resistance.
A 7.8-8.2 kb mRNA is transcribed and several variant transcripts maintain the open
reading frame. MRP1 contains a high proportion of class 0 introns. Conservation of
intron/exon organization and sequence suggest that MRP-related transporters evolved
by fusion from a shared common ancestor with CFTR and MDR1 encoding polytopic membrane
proteins. MRP1 also appears to regulate LTC4 transport, which promotes chemotaxis
to CCL19 and dendritic cell migration to lymph nodes. MRP1 is over expressed in a
multidrug-resistant SCLC cell line.;
