NCIt note : The HMGB3 gene is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). Levels of HMGB3 mRNA transcripts are significantly higher in embryonic tissues than in adult tissues. Studies in mice indicate that high mobility group protein B3 is necessary for maintaining the correct balance between HSC self-renewal and differentiation.;
