antianxiety and hypnotic activities. Valerian root contains volatile oils (sesquiterpenes
and monoterpenes), valepotriates, alkaloids and lignans. This agent may inhibit the
uptake and stimulate the release of [3H]GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), resulting
