NCIt definition : Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 11 (317 aa, 35 kDa) is encoded by the human TNFSF11 gene. This protein is involved in osteoclast differentiation and activation and the regulation of the interactions between T-cells and dendritic cells.;

NCIt note : Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 11 binds as an osteoclast activation and differentiation ligand to TNFRSF11B/OPG and to TNFRSF11A/RANK. Isoforms 1 and 3 are type II membrane proteins; isoform 2 is secreted. A soluble form of isoform 1 is likely derived from proteolytic processing by ADAM17. TNFSF11 activates antiapoptotic kinase AKT/PKB through a SRC kinase/TRAF6 signaling complex and augments or regulates dendritic cell stimulation of naive T-cell proliferation.;
