Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate acts against erythrocytic malarial parasites (Plasmodium
vivax, ovale, and malariae) by concentrating in food vacuoles. It inhibits plasmodial
heme polymerase and acts through other unknown mechanisms. Hydroxychloroquine also
has anti-inflammatory properties and is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
