NCIt definition : A cutaneous melanoma that develops on sun exposed sites with low cumulative sun damage
(CSD). It is characterized by a prominent junctional and intraepidermal component
with intraepidermal proliferation of individual atypical melanocytes and formation
of nests of atypical melanocytes along the dermal-epidermal junction. The dermal component
is composed of atypical melanocytes that fail to mature. The atypical melanocytes
have large nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and eosinophilic or lightly pigmented cytoplasm.
It is the most common melanoma subtype in the Western world.;
