NCIt definition : Peroxisomal ATPase PEX1 (1283 aa, 143 kDa) is encoded by the human PEX1 gene. This
protein plays a role in ATP-dependent extraction of peroxisomal targeting signal 1
receptor (PEX5) from the peroxisomal membrane.;
NCIt note : Peroxisomal ATPase PEX1 is a homooligomer in the cytosol until it interacts with peroxisomal
ATPase PEX6. Interaction with PEX6 dissociates PEX1 homooligomers and promotes formation
of the PEX1-PEX6 AAA ATPase complex, which is composed of a heterohexamer formed by
three of PEX1-PEX6 heterodimers. The recruitment of PEX1-PEX6 AAA ATPase complex to
peroxisome membranes is promoted by interaction with peroxisome assembly protein 26
(PEX26). (UniProt);
