NCIt definition : Human MOCS1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 6p21.2 and is approximately
35 kb in length. This allele, which encodes molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis protein
1, is involved in the biosynthesis of cyclic pyranopterin monophosphate (cPMP). Mutation
of the gene is associated with molybdenum cofactor deficiency A.;
NCIt note : The MOCS1 gene locus was initially thought to produce transcripts for MOCS1A and MOCS1B
from non-overlapping reading frames within a bicistronic transcript. However, the
only isoform MOCS1A is produced from this bicistronic transcript. A monocistronic
mRNA can produce several isoforms of both MOCS1A and MOCS1B due to alternative splicing.
