NCIt definition : An orally bioavailable central nervous system (CNS)-penetrant and inhibitor of certain
inflammatory mediators, with potential neuroinflammation attenuating and neuroprotective
activities. Upon oral administration, MW151 is able to penetrate the blood-brain-barrier
(BBB) and inhibits the up-regulation of certain neuroinflammatory responses upon brain
injury or caused by certain diseases. MW151 suppresses neuroinflammation-induced glial
activation and prevents the production of certain pro-inflammatory cytokines, such
as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1b) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFa). By preventing
the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines, over-activated neuroinflammatory pathways
are attenuated and associative damage is decreased. This may slow down or prevent
certain neurodegenerative disease and cognitive impairment. MW151 may also prevent
damage to synapses and synaptic plasticity.;
