Preferred Label : Interferon Regulatory Factor 4;

NCIt synonyms : LSIRF; Lymphocyte-Specific IRF; NF-EM5; Lymphocyte-Specific Interferon Regulatory Factor; Multiple Myeloma Oncogene 1; LSIRF Protein; IRF4 Protein; IRF-4; IRF4; Interferon Regulatory Factor-4;

NCIt related terms : MUM1;

NCIt definition : Interferon regulatory factor 4 (451 aa, 52 kDa) is encoded by the human IRF4 gene. This protein is involved in the mediation of both T-cell activation and interferon-stimulated response element promoter-dependent gene expression.;

NCIt note : The relationship between IRF4 and multiple myeloma is being actively investigated. Studies in multiplel myeloma cells have provided some evidence that the survival of these cells is dependent on the cancer-promoting activities of IRF4. (Story in NCI Cancer Bulletin from June 24, 2008).;
