NCIt definition : A fusion gene that results from a chromosomal translocation which fuses the 5' end
of the MALAT1 gene to the 5' side of exon 6 of the GLI1 gene. This rearrangement is
associated with gastroblastomas and plexiform fibromyxomas.;
NCIt note : Spans, L., et. al. (J Pathol. 2016; 239:335-43) reports the translation breakpoints
as t(11;12)(q11;q13). Additionally, while it is possible that a chimeric protein is
produced, it is more likely that this translocation causes the transcription and overexpression
of truncated GLI1 protein.;
