NCIt definition : A muscle in the foot that is involved in the flexion of the first toe and the support of the medial longitudinal arch. It originates on the plantar surface of the cuboid bone and inserts into the medial and lateral sesamoid bones at the base of the proximal phalanx of the first toe. It is innervated by the medial plantar nerve and supplied by the medial plantar artery.;

Alternative definition : CDISC: A muscle in the foot, in general extending from the plantar surface of the cuboid bone to the medial and lateral sesamoid bones at the base of the proximal phalanx of the big toe; primary function is flexion of the big toe and the support of the medial longitudinal arch.;
