For SEER, Computed Ethnicity records the ethnicity based on last name and/or maiden
name using a computer algorithm. The computer algorithm compares a list of names with
the patient's surname and/or maiden name to test for Hispanic ethnicity. A computer
algorithm must be used to compute ethnicity for all cases diagnosed January 1, 1994
