NCIt definition : Human MIA2 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 14q21.1 and is approximately 158 kb in length. This allele, which encodes melanoma inhibitory activity protein 2, plays a role in lipoprotein transport.;

NCIt note : It is not clear whether the MIA2/CTAGE5 locus is comprised of one gene or two distinct genes. HGNC, EntrezGene and OMIM consider the gene sequence represented by this concept to be part of the MIA2 gene (HGNC:18432). However, three major classes of transcripts are generated from the MIA2 locus; melanoma inhibitory activity 2-specific transcripts, cTAGE family member 5-specific transcripts and read-through transcripts that include exons from both these transcript species (TANGO1-like or TALI). UniProt has separate entries for the protein products of the melanoma inhibitory activity 2-specific transcripts and cTAGE family member 5-specific transcripts.;
