" /> DNA Repair Capacity - CISMeF

Preferred Label : DNA Repair Capacity;

NCIt definition : A cellular metabolic marker that may indicate an increased risk for neoplastic disease that is based on a semi-quantitative determination of the ability of cells in a biological sample to maintain the integrity of its genome.;

NCIt note : One method to determine DNA repair capacity involves incubating a sample with benzo[a]pyrene diol epoxide (BPDE) for a few hours. After washing off the unbound BPDE, the amount of BPDE-DNA adducts formed can be determined by the detection of the fluorescence emitted by a fluorescently-labeled antibody that specifically binds to BPDE-DNA adducts. Increased fluorescence is an indication of decreased DNA repair capacity. (J Natl Cancer Inst. 2005; 97: 127-132. doi: 10.1093/jnci/dji013);
