NCIt definition : An embolic particle composed of water-soluble, compressible, nonabsorbable microspheres
composed of tris-acryl gelatin, with potential use for embolization. Upon administration,
the tris-acryl gelatin microspheres (TAGM) serve as an embolic agent before surgery
for highly vascularized areas, such as those seen in certain tumors, by penetrating
into the blood vessel system and blocking blood flow. These microspheres may be used
to encapsulate various therapeutic agents; drug-loaded microspheres can then be used
as drug delivery vehicles during embolization of tumor vasculature.;
