NCIt definition : Any quinolone antibiotic with a fluorine (F) atom attached to the quinolone structure,
with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Fluoroquinolones diffuse through the bacterial
cell wall and act by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase II, DNA gyrase and/or bacterial
topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication. This prevents
DNA replication and leads to a blockage of bacterial cell proliferation.;
