NCIt definition : An oral rinse containing the antihistamine diphenhydramine hydrochloride, the topical anesthetic agent lidocaine, and the antacids aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide (DLA), with potential analgesic and anti-mucositic activities. Upon swishing and gargling with the DLA rinse, the diphenhydramine may provide analgesia; the lidocaine exerts an anesthetic activity which may further relieve mucositis-associated pain; the antacids, aluminum and magnesium hydroxide, are able to provide a coating of the rinse over the lesions in the oral mucosa and neutralize acids. Altogether, this rinse may reduce the symptoms of chemo- and radiotherapy-induced mucositis.;
