NCIt definition : Human CTAGE5 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 14q13.3 and is approximately 122 kb in length. This allele, which encodes endoplasmic reticulum export factor CTAGE5 protein, plays a role in the protein transport and induction of the immune response.;

NCIt note : There is a report of a chromosomal aberration involving the CTAGE5 gene and the GEMIN2 gene, which is associated with breast cancer. (COSMIC); It is not clear whether the MIA2/CTAGE5 locus is comprised of one gene or two distinct genes. HGNC, EntrezGene and OMIM consider the gene sequence represented by this concept to be part of the MIA2 gene (HGNC:18432). However, three major classes of transcripts are generated from the MIA2 locus; melanoma inhibitory activity 2-specific transcripts, cTAGE family member 5-specific transcripts and read-through transcripts that include exons from both these transcript species (TANGO1-like or TALI).
