NCIt definition : A stage of retinopathy of prematurity characterized by the presence of the following in at least two quadrants around the optic nerve: dilation and tortuosity of major retinal vasculature as a result of increased blood flow.;

Alternative definition : NICHD: A vasoproliferative condition of very immature newborn infants that may be characterized by neovascularization, scarring, retinal detachment, and eventually blindness. Plus disease is characterized by at least two quadrants around the optic nerve showing evidence of dilation and tortuosity of the major retinal vessels resulting from increased blood flow or neovascularization of the iris or poor view of the retina due to vitreous haze.;
