LOINC description : This test is indicated for patients having symptoms of meningioencephalitis, as an
aid in the presumptive laboratory diagnosis of West Nile virus infection. Positive
results must be confirmed. WNV IgG antibodies generally are detected shortly after
IgM antibodies and persist for many years following a symptomatic or asymptomatic
infection. Therefore, the presence of IgG antibodies alone is only evidence of previous
infection. http://www.cdc.gov/westnile/healthcareproviders/healthcareproviders-diagnostic.html.
