Preferred Label : Liver stiffness:Pres:Pt:Abdomen Liver:Qn:US.transient elastography;

LOINC status : ACTIVE;

LOINC long common name : Liver stiffness by US.transient elastography;

LOINC short name : US.TE Liver stiffness;

LOINC description : Liver stiffness is measured in a non-invasive manner by vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE). VCTE uses an ultrasound transducer mounted on the axis of a mechanical vibrator. The vibrator induces a 50 Hz shear wave through the liver and ultrasounds are used to track the propagation of the shear wave and measure its speed of propagation into the liver. The speed is converted into stiffness using Hooke's law. Stiffness measurements are expressed in kPa. Clinical interpretation of liver stiffness values should always be in the hands of an expert clinician and should be made with full knowledge of patient demographics, disease etiology and essential laboratory parameters.;
