LOINC description : Detects E6/E7 mRNA in sufficient quantity to demonstrate integration and expression
in ectocervical cells in cervical specimens in which high-risk HPV types have been
previously been detected. (This test should only be performed on specimens found to
be positive by other high-risk HPV detection methods.) Detection may identify infection
more likely to progress to disease as the detection of E6/E7 is not only a sign of
virus within the cell, but also evidence of viral activity and thus may help discriminate
the presence of CIN2 disease. This term was created for, but not limited in use to,
the LabCorp QuantaSURE mRNA based test which measures the quantity of E6/E7 mRNA per
cell and then calculates the percentage of cells that are overexpressing E6/E7 mRNA.;
