LOINC description : HIV-1 genotyping resistance assay starts with the isolation of HIV-1 RNA from blood plasma, followed by amplification of the protease (PR), reverse transcriptase (RT) and integrase (IT) coding regions using sequencing methods to determine drug susceptibility. This code is based on, but not limited in use to, the submitter's test kit (GenoSure PRIme),a DNA sequence assay that detects mutations within the protease (amino acids 1-99), reverse transciptase (amino acids 1-400), and integrase (amino acids 1-288) coding regions of HIV-1. Assessment of drug susceptibility is based on the interpretation of mutations identified. It is performed to assess treatment failure, assist in choosing alternate regimens, and to assist in choosing a regimen that will reduce vertical transmission in pregnant HIV infected women. The answer list provided with this code represents example mutations that may be identified and is not a complete list.;
