Stroke, a loss of brain function due to disrupted blood flow, is the most common debilitating neurological condition in the United States and is the third leading cause of death. Stroke etiology is influenced both by genetic and environmental factors and risk factors include increasing age, systolic blood pressure, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, male gender, smoking and cardiovascular disease (Aminoff et al., 2005, Wolf et al., 1991).;
