LOINC description : A questionnaire to assess schizophrenia, a condition that lasts 6 months or more including a period of 1 month or more characterized by two or more of the following: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized behavior, catatonic behavior, or negative symptoms (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). This measure is used to screen an individual for schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is an often devastating neuropsychiatric condition that occurs in about 1% of the population and demonstrates a familial pattern with higher rates in first degree relatives of patients with schizophrenia when compared to the general population. Several strong candidate genes have been identified. Studies of identical and fraternal twins with schizophrenia have also indicated that environmental factors also play a role in etiology. Schizophrenia may co-occur with a number of other conditions including alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse or dependence, violent behavior, and symptoms of depression, mania, and anxiety (American Psychiatric Association, 2000).;
